Lean Turkey: Walt

Walt has tipped the scales as a top Crossfitter at Crossfit Central. Just the other day he did his first muscle up on his first try right before a WOD which had muscle ups. Walt has also never done a one rep max Push Jerk, and today he hit 185!(he weighs about 150). Below are a few pics of Walt's experience at the gym earlier.

Lean Turkey: Erika

Sunday is usually a day when most people rest and get ready for the week. It's also the best excuse you can use for doing absolutely nothing for one whole day. This Sunday,Erika showed up at noon for what she knew was going to be a butt whooping, 1 hour workout...voluntarily at that. Realizing she controls her own destiny, Erika is going all out to do everything she can to ensure her success in the Lean Turkey Sprint. Check out photos of the workout.

Crossfit Claims Another One!

Janese is one of my one on one clients. She is very much in shape, and a great Crossfitter. Check out the video of her doing a kipping pull up. To her credit, we rarely practice them due to lack of access to bar, but sure enough I demo'd the movement and she flew up there on her first try! She will be getting consecutive kipping pullups in no time.

I'm Just Keeping it REAL

Today I was confronted with two different situations that really had me thinking about the way that I am, and why I train the way I do.

On one hand I am training clients that are not used to someone else being in charge. They will listen to you, but not acknowledge they are. They continue on as though they are doing their own thing because it's what is comfortable for them. Usually these clients have excuses for a lot of things..ie age related, surgery however many months ago etc.., for why they don't perform certain tasks that you ask of them. I don't accept this, and it's cause for eliciting some emotion from my clients. I have trained people from all levels of fitness/abilities and I know how much to ask of them(all disabilities aside of course). It is always reasonable, but will ALWAYS require effort on the clients part. I will stop you and repeat myself to make sure you are doing things right before I let you do a workout with half ass motion just so you can feel like you did a workout. I don't yell at you, I simply motivate you from a level from which we have bonded. So for a client to get upset, and snap at me because I am encouraging them out of their comfort zone(where the problem is in the first place), while I take extra effort to help them succeed during their workout baffels me. You have been training a certain way which is why you have the results you have. Usually training your own way yielding no results. You come to me so we can change your life. The one problem is you want it easy and fast. You don't really want to EMBRACE the effort required to change your life at the rapid pace that you request, but you will EMBRACE excuses for the ease in which they bring your life. Sorry, but I don't let my clients go that route. We will butt heads, and you might fuss at me, but I promise you will thank me in the end. It always happens. Just know when I am training you there is no room for excuses, only effort reminent of your current level of fitness.

A shoutout to everyone who has ever had their shit fucked up..if you've been there you know what I'm talking about. Enjoy. Compliments of gymjones.

Free UTB Workout!

Crossfit Central hosted another free UTB (under the bridge) workout this weekend. Once again workout enthusiasts came out bright and early to fill the grounds at Townlake.

Ranging from "super fit" to the "just getting started", everyone worked hard and safe. The Coaches make sure to demonstrate each movement with precise detail, while giving verbal instruction before starting these workouts. This maximizes everyones safety, and most of all allows for everyone to have fun. If you are unable to perform a movement as prescribed everything can be modified to suit your current ability. So if you are new to exercising, or a seasoned pro come out and take part in the community driven workout. The next one will be September 20th. For more information check the Crossfit Central website leading up to the workout.
